The City of Los Angeles, in collaboration with the Los Angeles Food Policy Council, launched the Good Food Zones Microgrants Pilot Program in 2024. This initiative focuses on supporting food-centered businesses within designated Good Food Zones by providing $25,000 microgrants alongside tailored technical assistance from the Healthy Retail Team.
The program, funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), aims to empower businesses like corner stores, neighborhood markets, restaurants, cafes, and grocery stores to expand access to healthy food options and address challenges created by food deserts. The program strives to bolster healthy food offerings, improve food security, and contribute to the overall wellbeing of communities in Los Angeles.
Participating businesses also gain access to BusinessSource Centers and specialized support networks to help them meet both foundational and discretionary Good Food Zone standards.
