The Community Investment Department’s Aging Support Services provides a comprehensive array of nutrition programs designed to address the diverse needs of our community. While our Multipurpose Senior Centers and satellite dining sites remain central to our vibrant, in-person dining experiences, Aging Support Services has strategically expanded its service delivery models to ensure consistent access to nutritionally balanced meals for all eligible older adults aged 60 and older.
Our offerings include congregate dining environments, home-delivered meals for eligible individuals, and, where applicable, supplemental services such as food box distributions, food pantries, and fresh produce distribution. Our primary objective is to provide essential nutritional support while fostering meaningful opportunities for community connection.
CalFresh Program
The CalFresh program, known federally as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), is the largest food program in the state and offers a variety of resources.
Individuals receiving CalFresh benefits can conveniently use their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card to order groceries online for at-home delivery. Online EBT purchasing has expanded significantly and is now accepted by a wide variety of participating retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, Target, most major grocery stores, and through delivery platforms like Instacart. Please note that while CalFresh benefits will cover the cost of eligible food items, they cannot be used to pay for delivery fees, service charges, or driver tips.
For more information, to view a full list of participating online retailers, and to apply online, visit BenefitsCal.com or calfresh.dss.ca.gov. To apply over the phone, call the California State hotline at 877-847-FOOD (3663).
CalFresh Restaurant Meals Program (RMP)
The CalFresh Restaurant Meals Program gives certain people at high risk for chronic hunger the option to use their CalFresh Food benefits to buy prepared meals at approved participating restaurant vendors. The RMP is available to older adults aged 60 or older, people with disabilities, and homeless persons, and their spouses.
California Food Assistance Program (CFAP)
The California Food Assistance Program is a monthly state benefits food program for eligible residents. Recent Federal rules have added work requirements, which are waived for adults aged 64 or older.
Emergency Food Programs Section (EFPS)
The Emergency Food Programs Section administers several food distribution programs throughout the State of California. Their Commodity Supplemental Food Program focuses on improving the health of income-eligible older adults by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA-approved foods. For additional eligibility information, review the 2026 Fact Sheet and the California Providers List of participating local agencies.
