Four-Year Joint Area Plans on Aging

The mission of the Community Investment Department Aging Support Division, an Area Agency on Aging (AAA), is to promote a comprehensive, culturally sensitive, and socially inclusive system of community-based programs for older adults and caregivers.

California has 33 AAAs that work to provide leadership in addressing issues that relate to older Californians, such as:

  • develop community-based systems of care that provide services which support independence within California’s interdependent society, and which protect the quality of life of older persons and persons with functional impairments
  • promote citizen involvement in the planning and delivery of services

The Four-Year Joint Area Plan outlines a strategy for creating coordinated, accessible home and community-based care systems. This strategy focuses on addressing community needs and developing specific services for older adults, adults with disabilities, and their caregivers. Four-Year Area Plans are required by the California Department of Aging for all AAAs in California.
